It’s More Than Jem

It all started with a mother’s dream of seeing her baby girl up on stage performing, a passion shared with her family from an early age. The idea of a benefit recital was conceptualized with Jem’s voice coach, Ann Abarientos-Aliga, and guitar teacher, Hamish Arellano. We soon shared this with our good friend, Real Life Foundation (RLF) life coach, Lea Garcia. Then it was as if the puzzle pieces fitted perfectly with the right people coming into the picture at the right time.

“It’s More Than Jem” was a dinner concert highlighting God’s gift through His children’s expression of music. The management of Hard Rock Café Makati joined us in this effort as our valued venue/stage sponsor. The event was held last December 11, 2016.

We aim to glorify God through our little contribution to the community. What better way to do this than to support our deserving youth in the pursuit of a brighter and more hopeful future for themselves and their families. With this in mind, the partnership with Real LIFE Foundation materialized.

Real LIFE Foundation is passionate about providing a better future for underprivileged Filipinos by giving them access to a good education and transforming their communities through community service. We are a Christian non-profit that was incorporated in 2007 with the vision of seeing thousands of marginalized Filipino youth educated, gainfully employed and uplifting their communities.” www.reallife.ph

When I brought out the Php 500,000 check on stage to award to RLF representative Pastor Michael Manahan, there was a hair-raising silence that swept the whole of Hard Rock Café. I witnessed as if one after another a light bulb was being turned on, the faces of the guests in the audience lit up with a smile. Then, an explosion of applause.  The feelings of gratification and sincere joy were mutually shared.
