Leadership is Influence

"Leadership is influence. It is not a title or a position."

I had a privilege to sit through a Business Leadership Seminar hosted by our church a few years ago. Alex Castillo spoke of the different areas and aspects of leadership. And it seems we all can be leaders at some point in our lives. What matters is the result we get after we perform our role.

If someone with Alex's stature would call out to his staff and say FOLLOW ME, but looks back and sees no one is behind him, then he is just out taking a walk by himself. But if the same people run to the guy who works in the mail room for pieces of advices on love and family matters, recipes, how to operate the photocopier, etc., what does that tell you?

The root word LEAD, when translated to the native Filipino language, is UMAKAY, which means CAUSE A PERSON TO GO WITH ONE BY HOLDING THEM BY THE HAND. It didn't say one would walk ahead while the others follow. Somewhere in the definition the word TOGETHER keeps popping up.
